Austenitic Archwires
Ultimate offers a wide variety of archwires with the specific characteristics needed to treat even the toughest cases. These special characteristics allow the clinician to custom fit the arch wire to the case for optimum results.
Superelastic Two (S/E2)
This is our strongest and stiffest nickel titanium Superelastic
resilient wire. The S/E 2 wire is fully austenitic at 75 degrees F and the force of
the wire will not change once placed in the mouth. This wire can be bent
with pliers and will maintain the bend and/or loop without changing the
strength or stiffness of the S/E 2 properties. This wire works extremely
well when the teeth are not severely malaligned and you need to put steps,
bends or loops in the wire. This is the wire of choice for doctors that
want the stronger, stiffer nickel titanium wire. Ligation of this wire is
made easier by the introduction of Chill (TM) spray to transform the wire into
its Martensitic state.
Superelastic One (S/E1)
Next in line in strength and stiffness is our S/E 1 Superelastic nickel
titanium wire. The S/E 1 wire is fully austenitic at 85 degrees F and is also a
very resilient wire. The S/E 1 wire is by far the volume leader for
Superelastic wires in the industry. Like the S/E 2 wire, this wire can be
bent using pliers. However, it is easier to "wipe" broad radius bends (by
hand) into an S/E 1 wire. The S/E 1 wire produces lighter forces than the
S/E 2 wire but higher forces than the Martensitic Two wire. Albeit easier to ligate
than S/E 2, Chill(TM) spray is also very effective in softening the S/E 1 wire.
TIP: For easier insertion, try using Chill Spray. Spray the Chill Spray onto a swab and rub the swab on the desired section of the archwire. This will transform the wire into a soft state (martensite) and allow the clinician to easily engage the wire. The wire will return to its original force shortly after it is placed in the mouth.
